Australia Day 2020 celebrations

On the occasion of Australia Day, the Governor of Victoria, the Honourable Linda Dessau organised a reception at Government House on 21 January 2020. It was the very first occasion of the year for the Melbourne Consular Corps to gather together .

After a speech by the Governor, the Hon. Melissa Horne, Minister for Ports and Freight and Minister for Public Transport, addressed audience and passed the best wishes of the Premier of Victoria whom she represented that day.

Australia Day is celebrated on 26 January and sees a series of public events taking place, including the raising of the official flags at Melbourne Town Hall on Sunday 26 January from 9h45 am, a military parade and Aboriginal dances. This day commemorates the arrival of the first European settlers in 1788 at Sydney Cove
