Who was Annette Kellerman ? To discover this Australian sporting pioneer and feminine icon, do not miss L’Audace d’Annette (The Audacity of Annette) exhibition by Australian artist Lisa Barmby at the Alliance Française from 20 September to 18 October.
This exhibition relates the audacious life and career of Annette Kellerman (1886 – 1975). Born from a French mother, Annette was a synchronised swimmer, the first woman to wear a one piece-bathing costume instead of the then-accepted pantaloons. She was also a talented actress and writer.
Artist Lisa Barmby pays tribute to Annette Kellerman who greatly inspired her through her courage, modern female sensibilities and her French-Australian connection.
Don’t miss the opening of the exhibition on Friday 20 September, between 6:30pm and 8pm: RSVP here.
