Awards Ceremony 2023: Berthe Mouchette Competition

On Tuesday, November 28th the Awards Ceremony for the Berthe Mouchette” competition organised by the Alliance Française de Melbourne was held at St Kilda Town Hall. 

Named after Berthe Mouchette, a respected literary figure and considered as one of the woman of her time,  sharing her love of the French language and culture, the contest offers students the opportunity to share their passion for literature and poetry, while honoring the memory of this person who contributed to the richness of the French-speaking world. It’s an inspiring celebration of the linguistic creativity and cultural heritage that unites lovers of the French language across borders.

Prizes are awarded to young students from years 3 to years 12, in various categories such as poetry recitation, poetry writing and a drawing competition. For this 129ᵉ edition, 7627 candidates took part in the oral tests and 1086 in the written tests! Overall, 35 of the 92 participating schools counted their students among the winners, and 93 candidates received their prizes!
