Soon, the tram network of Melbourne will be entirely powered by a giant solar farm at Numurkah. The farm has been built in a record time by French company Neoen, one of the leaders in renewable energy worldwide.
Solar energy has many benefits : it is clean and emission-free. According to Neoen, the production of 255 GWh of electricity by the farm is ”the equivalent of taking 77,000 cars off the road each year and enough to power 48,000 Victorian households.” It also created 300 jobs!
The farm received fundings from the Victorian Government as a part of the State’s objective to reduce carbon emissions and generate 50 per cent renewable energy.
