Since 1st January 2016, France went from 22 regions down to 13. A big change on the map of France as well as in the life of its inhabitants!
The decision was motivated by a will to better facilitate regional administration and cut back on administrative costs. Furthermore, this territorial reform aims to benefit tourism and reduce regional demographic and economic disparities.
5 regions remain untouched, including Brittany and Corsica, whereas others are merging together : Nord-Pas-de-Calais and Picardy have now become Hauts-de-France, and Poitou-Charente, Limousin and Aquitaine now form Nouvelle-Aquitaine.
